A bronzetone necklace/pendant with a quote from Mary Astell "If all men are born free, how is it that all women are born slaves?" set in a round frame covered with glass (approx 25mm across). Mary Astell was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1666 and was a feminist writer and rhetorician. Her advocacy of equal educational opportunities for women has earned her the title "the first English feminist".
